Mare On the Moon Prologue

So we know that Luna got jealous and sad that everyone liked the sun and her sister Celestia better. Maybe the Nightmare Moon persona corrupts Luna (yeeessss let the hate flow through you) which afterwards causes that epic battle between Nightmare and Celestia. In the aftermath she gets sent to the moon for a long time.
Perhaps the old pony's tale of Nightmare Moon played out like this?
